John and LeAnne Pemberton
THE PEMBERTONS
John Pemberton says, “I guess to describe our sound it would be a ‘new old sound’. We love all gospel music. We love old songs that have been around for years, some even longer than us. We also love the new worship music we hear. We like a good toe tappin’ hand clappin’ song about the fire and power of God and we also love a song that brings us to tears about the love of God and how he sustains and keeps us. We try to incorporate a little of all of that in our music.”
You'll hear these songs on The Gospel Station: The Other Side of Grace (LISTEN HERE) (When there's nothing left to stand on) He'll be Standing There with You. (LISTEN HERE)

WILL THE PREACHER HAVE TO LIE?<럌ƀ>럌ƀ>
Dr. Dixie, I recently attended a funeral for a very difficult relative. Everyone knew him, and could tell how the preacher struggled to be honest, while trying to be kind. But isn’t that dishonesty? Why can’t we just come right out and say, “He was a mean old man, and we’re relieved that he’s gone!” He made a lot of people miserable. Why try to soften an ugly life? PREFER BLUNTNESS
Dear BLUNT: We’ve heard the saying: “Live your life so the preacher won’t have to lie at your funeral.” The reality of that statement comes home in a new way in a situation like yours.
A part of our human design that reflects our Creator is the desire to show respect for humanity, even in death. This respect is indeed an indication of civility and honor. We saw an infraction of this principle on the news recently. The degrading of the bodies of enemy soldiers was so offensive, even to a secular military system, that it was severely punished.
It’s also important to honor even difficult family members in death so that, after the services are over, lingering guilt and the grief of loss for a relationship that really never existed, is minimized.
It can be helpful to think ahead. What will our tombstone say if someone else chooses our epitaph? And what will the preacher and family members have to say about us? If listening to a less-than-honest evaluation of someone else’s life makes us uncomfortable, let’s determine now to make it possible for our families and friends to express joy over a life well lived when our body lies in the casket.
I'm reminded of the man who offered the eulogy during his father’s funeral service; a man known for his irascibility and the misery he had dealt his family. Speaking carefully he said, “Occasionally he was delightfully stubborn, but mostly through the years, he was more stubborn than delightful.”
Each life is lived in that “dash” between the birth date and date of death. Epitaphs give us a glimpse into the quality of life “in the dash”:
· “Festus: He kept all his problems inside—where they ate him alive until the day that he died.”
· “Anna: The children of Israel wanted bread, and the Lord sent them manna. Mr. Wallace wanted a wife, and the devil sent him Anna.”
· “Darcy: “She always said her feet were killing her, but nobody believed her.”
Will people remember that we complained, worried, frowned and criticized so constantly that the atmosphere around us became bleak and bitter? Or will people recall affectionately that our cheerful interaction with them made life brighter and better? The choice is ours.
To be missed in a good way, it’s essential to view all of life as an opportunity to make God’s love visible and tangible to other people. Living as if the focal point of life is: my rights; my comfort; my needs; my money; my…my…my…” produces endless dissatisfaction, irritability and whining resentment. Sadly then, our passing will likely be viewed with more relief than sorrow.
Ephesians 4:31-32 (Amplified): Let all bitterness, indignation, bad temper, resentment, quarreling and abusive or blasphemous language be banished from you, along with all malice, spite and ill will. Instead, become useful and helpful and kind to one another; be tenderhearted, compassionate and understanding; forgiving one another readily and freely, just as God in Christ forgave you.
